What is the job of a Creative Director and why did you decide to get into this industry?

EI: As a creative director, I specialize in branding for galas, award ceremonies, fundraisers, corporate events and businesses. With a diverse background in design, I’ve worked on thousands of projects, acting as a team leader, project manager, and designer. My work spans the entire design process from the concept and strategy to the final deliverable. I started my career as an accountant but quickly realized that I’m a creative at heart and went back to school to get a second bachelors in fine arts. I love the combination of business and marketing strategy with design that being a creative director offers.

You recently won the 2018 USA GD Award for your the creation of The Intelligentsia Agency logo, can you tell us more about the process of creating the logo and what winning that award means to you?

EI: My process always starts with the client questionnaire which serves two purposes. One, it helps the client nail down what they’re looking for in their brand, who their target market is and what style they’re drawn to. And two, it serves as a touchstone for me to refer to when designing. I sketch my initial ideas, and from those sketches, I choose the concepts that fulfill the client’s questionnaire answers. I know the logo is unique and special so I was thrilled to win the award.

Tell us about your company, Pomp Creative and what inspires your work.

EI: I started Pomp Creative while working a full-time job as the Manager of Creative Services at AARP. When I was burning the candle at both ends trying to keep up with my side hustle, I decided to take the plunge and go out on my own. The idea of classically modern inspires me—I try to create designs that stand the test of time and aren’t relying on popular trends.

What kinds of services does your company offer?

EI: My services include:

  • Branding and identity
  • Event invitations
  • Graphics
  • Signage and collateral
  • Corporate collateral
  • Advertising
  • Illustration
